▶ CHARACTER
NAME: Alibaba Saluja
CANON: Magi
CANON POINT: Directly after his fight with Hakuryuu and Judar. (End of Kou Empire Arc)
AGE: 19
BACKGROUND: Wiki
PERSONALITY:
Alibaba, at heart, has a heroic spirit. It's what drew the Magi Aladdin's attention to him and ended up binding their fates together so closely throughout the course of their series. He is determined and loyal and will let nothing stand in his way once he's made up his mind on something or sees a wrong that needs righting. When he's first seen in canon, he appears greedy and shallow, only committing to any course of action if it will profit him, but as you learn more about him, you discover an underlying drive and his own motivations that push him to never give up on his goals, no matter what he has to do to achieve them. Even if it means humiliating himself, doing work he hates or spending his days doing without almost any comforts of his own. He's seeking strength and a path to the solution he dreams of, even if it seems almost impossible from the start. He never wavers in his determination to see it through.
Despite this drive to see others around him bettered, Alibaba can sometimes be crippled by his own naivete and his insecurities. Despite the fact that he often sees the best and the potential in all those around him - and strives to bring that out in the people around him, due to his own insights - when he looks at himself, Alibaba is often devastatingly negative and unsure of himself. Part of this comes from always feeling a little out of place - he was raised in the slums as a no-one and was happy there until the loss of his mother and the rediscovery of his royal father, which robbed him of the place he felt safest and left him unmoored. From that point on, he struggled to figure out what his place was in the world without ever really fitting into it. He was a gutter rat dressed in fine clothes and taught to be noble like his father but never really felt comfortable in that skin either. Then, when his own naive trust in a childhood friend brought that life crashing down around him, he fled, unable to face the consequences of his actions. He instead looked outward for an answer on how to make himself more worthy, strong enough to live up to the expectations others had placed on him. It takes a long time before he conquers those fears, shown several times in his reluctance to step up and take the lead when there are other more capable and impressive figures people could look to instead (like Sinbad). But even he has to learn that sometimes there are things only he can solve and even though he's not sure he's up to the task, he tries his hardest anyway because he has people around him now that do believe in him and he doesn't want to let anyone else down - including himself.
When he lets go of his own self-doubt and insecurity, he finds out he can be capable of incredible things. He has a clever mind and is quick and adept at both tactics and problem-solving. Instructed by his merchant-king of a father, Alibaba has a natural inclination towards both economics and politics and is able to use this on many occasions to come up with unique approaches and solutions to the problems of the people he encounters, even impressing Sinbad, the High King of the Seven Seas, with his original ideas and solutions.
Alibaba is a hard worker, willing to go through extreme training - both physical and mental - in his path to mastering the Djinn Powers he attained in that dungeon and becoming the King Candidate Aladdin sees in him. He wants to protect his friends and what's more, he wants to become better himself. Many challenges are thrown in his way, but he doesn't let it stop him, even if he does tend to fumble his way through the start of many of them. His luck is not always so good and sometimes his pride gets the better of him. He is definitely a person who occasionally lets his impulsiveness or his obliviousness get him in trouble when he's just rolling right along and maybe not paying as much attention as he should be. But he has a good heart and as long as he remembers to follow it (and stop making a fool out of himself in the meantime) he usually comes out alright in the end.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
This section I'm going to split into two parts because there are the normal abilities and skills Alibaba possesses as himself that he learned along the way on his journeys, and then a separate set of abilities he gained when conquering his first Dungeon and gaining the powers of the Fire Djinn, Amon.
As himself, Alibaba has proven the be strong and fast and agile. He's been trained in a unique form of fighting known as Royal Swordplay since he was very young and had mastered it by his early teen years. He later gains further training from a Master Swordsman named Sharrkan to round out his training and trains under the legendary Yambala Gladiators to learn their styles as well. He also learns by observing other fighting styles - especially ones used against him - and then practicing them until he masters them, later using those copied moves himself on later foes and enemies.
His upbringing in the royal palace also gave him an extensive education and training in politics, economics and all sorts of other higher education learning. He took to this quickly, excelling in his studies, because he has a quick and clever mind that soaks up information like a sponge. He truly loves learning, even if he had to work twice as hard to "catch up" due to his beginning origins as a street rat. This education gave him a lot of esoteric learning as well and has him fluent in Torran (think of it like their world's version of Latin - an ancient and all but forgotten language of a powerful ancient people).
He also has a minor mastery of Magoi manipulation - which Magicians in his world use to perform magic. He has a particularly hard time manipulating Magoi at his canon point because he had the unique experience of possessing two Magoi spirits within him (his own and Cassim's). He had to learn how to merge them or he would destroy himself if he tried to use it. He has succeeded in merging the two separate entities now, but he's still not very good at using his Magoi, only being able to wrap the magical forces around the hilt of his sword.
Which brings us to his Djinn, Amon. In Magi, there are mighty traps and lairs called Dungeons that are rumored to hold great treasures and power if one succeeds in surviving their trials to reach the top. With Aladdin's help, Alibaba captures the Dungeon he'd fled his country for and impresses the Djinn waiting at the end, thereby gaining his contract and his powers. Amon's seal is burned into the blade of Alibaba's sword, granting the power over flame, although it takes Alibaba a long time to learn the additional skills that come with being a Dungeon Capturer. His sword itself becomes his Metal Vessel (once a small dagger but later replaced by an heirloom shortsword/scimitar) and can become wreathed in flames when Alibaba wields it and is immune to heat and flames - actually absorbing that heat and fire to feed its own power and strengthening it.
He learns the more he practices with it that he can Equip his Djinn on himself and not just his sword, meaning he draws the flames out of his sword and wraps them around his whole body as well. It does not burn him, but it takes a great deal of concentration and effort - and since he is not talented at Magoi Manipulation in the first place, he has a much harder time learning to master this skill than most. Once he does master his Djinn Equip, his appearance transforms into a flaming warrior with a massive black sword and gives him increasing power and control over his flames and their heat. He is able to use the fire as blades, shields and a wall, and has been shown gathering them into a concentrated vortex of fire around him, deadly to everyone around him.
Since his canon point is going to be before his time in the Dark Continent, there are other abilities he gains later on that I will not be playing with, he will only have mastered his Djinn Equip and Extreme Magic just before his canon point and will not have spent his time in the other realm to enhance his other abilities beyond that of a normal human.
INVENTORY:
His blade, Amol Saiqa, which houses the seal for the power of his Djinn, Amon.
A pair of red hoop earrings he wears on the outer curve of his ear.
